xfce4-notifyd (previously known as notification-daemon-xfce) is a completely free and open source command-line software, a daemon that runs in the background and displays visual notifications on top of the Xfce graphical desktop environment. It stands for the Xfce Notify Daemon, and it is engineered to implement a server-side portion of the Freedesktop desktop notifications specification, but for Xfce. It’s a port of the notification-daemon project of the well known GNOME desktop environment. The daemon uses D-Bus and libnotify to pop up a notification bubble in one of the corners of your desktop environment, a function that can be adjust by by the user from the main Control Panel of the desktop.
