The sdparm utility can also decode VPD (Vital Product Data) pages, as well as to send various simple SCSI (Small Computer System Interface) commands. The application was originally designed for Linux, but it was later ported to FreeBSD, Tru64, Solaris, and Microsoft Windows operating systems. It features several command-line options, which, for example, allow users to view the number of blocks, as well as the block capacity and length, to stop the medium and ejects it, to load the medium, to view if the medium is ready for IO, as well as to view power condition information.
