flashrom is an open source command-line utility that is mostly used to identify, writie, read, verify, as well as to erase flash ROM chips, such as BIOS, EFI, coreboot, firmware, and optionROM images. flashrom is engineered in such a way that is supports over 200 flash chips, 130 motherboards, 75 chipsets, 17 devices (USB or PCI), LPC, parallel, SPI and FWH flash interfaces, as well as several chip packages, including DIP32, DIP8, PLCC32, SOIC8/SO8, TSOP40, TSOP32, and TSOP48.
